Competition Period

On October 22, 2020, the Canal Safety Challenge launched. Between October 22, 2020, and January 27, 2021, you are invited to learn about the challenge and register.

Submissions will be accepted from registered participants for several weeks after registration has closed. Submissions are due by Thursday, February 25, 2021, at 5:00 PM Mountain.

Administrative REview

Over a period of several weeks, staff will review each submission to ensure that it complies with the submission requirements and rules.

March – April 2021

Evaluation Panel Review

REVIEW PERIOD

During this period, the Evaluation Panel members will score and comment on their assigned submissions using the scoring rubric.

June 2021

Designation of Finalists

Selection Period

February 25, 2021

Informed by the results of the Evaluation Panel, up to three Finalists will be selected and awarded $50,000 each to build their prototypes.

June-November 2021

Prototyping

Prototyping

February 25, 2021

Over the course of six months, Finalists will build their prototypes in preparation for a demonstration event at the Bureau of Reclamation.

November 15-19, 2021

Demonstration Event

Selection

February 25, 2021

Up to three team members for each Finalist will attend a demonstration event at the Bureau of Reclamation’s Hydraulics Laboratory in Lakewood, Colorado.

December 2021

Winner Announced

Selection

February 25, 2021

The Demonstration Event Panel will have several weeks to provide a recommendation that will inform the selection of the Winner who will receive a $100,000 award.
